Returneth LeeDrOiD (T-Mod)

After some tinkering with Cyanogen (mod) I’ve reverted back to LeeDrOiD in particular the modified version T-Mod. The main reason I suppose is that I like the eye candy and some of the HTC widgets just make tasks quicker and easier!

This is not to say that Cyanogen is not to my liking, because it can be themed thus a level of “eye candy” can be achieved, but the HTC Sense UI won’t work on Cyanogen! nor would I even try (are Ye mad?)

Oh and as Telstra finally released their bloated version of FroYo, T-Mod has (well the maintainer) made some small adjustments to align with Telstra’s APN/MMS configuration…  all the info can be read here

Just some thoughts…

Well as the last week & a half have been pretty hectic, I’ve not had much time to even look at my blog, little lone write something worth while. There has been lots happening with Clare, but I’m not going to discuss/talk about that in this post, only to day what I just said!

On my Android front, there has been two updates released for the custom ROM that I’m currently using (T-Mod) these have really only been minor fixes (ROM based off LeeDrOid) some of the fixes were for applications I’ve not even used!

On the 6th of October, Icinga unified release 1.2 was let loose at the OSMC in NĆ¼rnberg, so far the response has been very positive for both companies & users of Icinga! So a big thanks goes out to the Icinga Team for their hard work & dedication towards the open source community. Oh yes, the surprise release of a mobile Web UI at the OSMC was a show stopper! Loss of “ohh & ahh” I’ve yet to set it up on my Icinga service, but when I get the time I certainly will be.

On the amateur radio front there isn’t much to mention either! But version 0.67 of the Alpha Code was released from Byon, this addressed some issues that crept into release 0.66 Again I’ve yet to update my two TinyTrak4 units to the latest firmware.

Now as I’ve not really had that much to say, here’s an image of Maisie …

My HTC Desire Layout…

Now if you hadn’t heard already about the fact that I have an Android HTC Desire, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN! but if this is your first visit then you are excused! šŸ˜‰

I’ve used the following application from the Android Market called ShootMe, note to use this application you do need to have your phone “rooted” as it requires superuser privileges to do its magic. As for some strange reason I couldn’t get DDMS working from the current SDK for Android to take screen shots.

Basically, all I’m showing is how I have my phone’s appearance setup, now you have seven work spaces (screens) and one overview where you can touch the screen you want to quickly jump to, but only from the home screen.

The order of these images is as follows, Overview, Weather widget, Calendar widget, E-mail widget, Home screen, Friend stream widget, News RSS widget & FM Radio and Media player widgets.

Telstra APN settings in LeeDrOiD v2.1

Hmm.. now this has me scratching my head! because I have checked the information against Telstra’s website for their APN settings but I can’t be verified correctly šŸ™ This only affects checking your personal account details using 3G as m.bigpond.com if accessed via any other means will not allow you to view your billing or data usage information as you get the following message…

Your phone has not identified itself correctly to Mobile Data Usage Meter. Turn off Wi-Fi if it is enabled. Otherwise, you may need to change the APN setting on your phone. Contact Telstra on 125 111 for assistance.

So this is a little weird, because in LeDrOiD v2.0c when I did an APN restore there was Ā one for prepaid customers and the other for those onĀ plans. I’ve just attempted a restore and I get the ROM’s defaults, that for some reason won’t authenticate for checking your personal account information, however it works just fine for web browsing. So I tried deleting the ones provided by the ROM (Telstra.wapĀ & Telstra.mms) andĀ manually created the suggested setting from the images above, but still at this stage no joy šŸ™

So it may be one of many things! Telstra have an issue with their account access, the APN information is wrong or I just haven’t factored in PEBKAC (“Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair”)

More Android ramblings…

By now you areĀ eitherĀ sick of me talking about Android, or have moved away due to the fact that I’m such a BORING person! šŸ˜‰

But anyhow I made a blog post a while back on how I unlocked (read as gave freedom!) to my HTC-Desire, ell I;m now going to expand on what I have been up to with my phone since then…

The first non official (meaning not provided by my carrier) wasĀ Official HTC |Rooted Android 2.2 (FroYo) ROM [Market issue fixed]| FROYO – HTC SENSEĀ Link This was in sense pretty much what I had with the stock Telstra ROM 1.15.841.14 – Stock ROM on Initial Release (Apr 21 2010) but minus the bloat from Telstra. Now because I had given my phone the freedom it deserved! I then started looking into ROM’s targeted specifically for the HTC-Desire.

This led me to the following OpenDesire Team |Official Froyo HTC Sense ROM v1.0c| FROYO – HTC SENSEĀ Link Now this was pretty much like the one above, but had some small faults in that the default wallpapers were not available and someĀ applicationsĀ wouldn’t install or would occasionally FC (Force Close) So with that I wasn’t too happy with it but I did like the HTC Plurk application, this has not been included in any other ROM I have since tried, so I’m using a 3rd party application for that now, but the advantage with the HTC version, was that it linked into the Friend Stream so there was no need to specifically use a 3rd party application to achieve the same.

The next ROM to experiment with wasĀ OpenDesire FROYO – NO SENSEĀ Link Ok IĀ shouldĀ have noticed the key words here… NO SENSE! meaning that it was not using the HTC sense UI but the Android default (at least I think that is what it is called) So it was fairly basic inĀ appearanceĀ to the HTC Sense UI but still veryĀ functional, I just like the eye candy of the Sense, So I did do much experimenting with this version.

The current ROM I’m now using is LeeDrOiD |(04/08 l Official HTC 2.2 l Fast l Stable! l A2SD+)| FROYO – HTC SENSE Link with Carbon theme with battery C! I’m totally wrapped with this ROM! there has been a lot of work go into the added applications that are not part of the HTC Sense UI so its almost a hybrid of the HTC Sense with some Classic Android UI applications included so you have the choice over what you use for any given action etc… the only thing I had to do was to reset the default APN for Telstra as the one provided in the ROM works fine for 3G access but not for viewing account data, but one reset it works as it should. šŸ™‚

I’ve not provided any images because you will see what each ROMĀ appearanceĀ is when you follow the links provided! šŸ˜‰
