The Audreys – Wrest Point Casino 20th November 2010

Sunday, November 21st, 2010

Last night my mother & I went to see The Audreys playing at Wrest Point Casino for their Sometimes the Stars Australian tour. I have to admit but there wasn't as many people there as I had expected there to be, but hey it meant that most of us got a seat and could simply enjoy the music!

I had my phone with me so I took some happy snaps, I'm going to include all that I took (some are a little blurry) So this is what you have missed out on if you didn't make the show…

The show was absolutely fantastic, and I even got to speak to Taasha & Tristan after the show   🙂

P.S: After seeing how some of these songs are played live it has given me a new appreciation for the Capo!

The Audreys Hobart in concert November 20th

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Although its still a while off yet, but the countdown is on for the Australian band The Audreys to visit Hobart for their one night only concert at the Wrest Point Casino. See tour dates here

I'm fairly new to liking this fantastic folk/blues group! as most of my musical influence has been psychedelic (Pink Floyd) blues/rock/hard rock (Led Zep, Jimi Hendrix) and more recently triphop group, Portishead. Another performer and song writer Alanis Morissette. So I have a broad covering of genre here! (some may say not!)

Anyhow, Taasha has a fantastic voice and songwriting style that from the first time I heard "Banjo & Violin" one late night whilst working on my computer listening to RAGE on Triple J. I had to turn on the TV to see the group! (iirc a Banjo isn't even used in the song other than as a prop in the clip by Tristian!) But this led to much searching of YouTube for further clips and surprisingly at that time there wasn't that much to be found (since changed)

So a while passed and recently I stumbled across some YouTube clips that got me more keen to get their albums "Between last night and us" c2006 "When the flood comes" c2008 and their latest "Sometimes the Stars" c2010 this was the pre-order special with signed inlay & bonus 4 track acoustic CD.

I'm thoroughly satisfied with all three albums, the good thing is that they are not all the same! The development as a band on the first two is just great, especially the song, Songbird… the third album is a little different as Michael, Lyndon & Toby left to pursue other projects this left the group with founding members Taasha & Tristian to produce a truly amazing album in collaboration with some other fantastic musicians…  😀
