As most of us are aware the numerous mailing lists are always the target of spammers, with there bid to attempt to flood us with there content! well this is a fine example of a spam message (that had the Conficker worm attached!) that recently has been hitting the ubuntu-au mailing list…
“Dear Microsoft Customer, Starting 18/10/2009 the ‘Conficker’ worm began infecting Microsoft customers unusually rapidly. Microsoft has been advised by your Internet provider that your network is infected. To counteract further spread we advise removing the infection using an antispyware program. We are supplying all effected Windows Users with a free system scan in order to clean any files infected by the virus. Please install attached file to start the scan. The process takes under a minute and will prevent your files from being compromised. We appreciate your prompt cooperation. Regards,Microsoft Windows Agent #2 (Hollis)

So do your Microsoft buddies a favour, and at least mention in passing that there are still attempts to lure them into running bogus attachments that will cause them endless pain!
Hmm.. wouldn’t it be nice if we all used Linux, how much nicer the Internet would be! 😉

One response to “Ubuntu-AU and the amusing spam!”
The main thing to note here is that the date & sender always changes! and that Microsoft never send this type of Email! (they’d rather not admit they have a problem!)
